[¶1] 1. शिक्षा केवल साक्षर होने अथवा सूचनाओं का संकलन करने का नाम नहीं है। आज की तथाकथित आधुनिक शिक्षा पद्धति ने मनुष्य को एक ऐसी अंधी दौड़ में धकेल दिया है, जहां हर व्यक्ति दूसरे को पछाड़कर आगे निकल जाने के लिए आतुर है। इस गलाकाट प्रतिस्पर्धा ने मानवीय मूल्यों को हाशिए पर धकेल दिया है। व्यक्ति शिक्षित होकर भी भीतर से संवेदनहीन और आत्मकेंद्रित बनता जा रहा है।
[¶2] 2. प्राचीन विचारकों का मानना था कि सा विद्या या विमुक्तये, अर्थात विद्या वही है जो मनुष्य को अज्ञान, संकीर्णता और पूर्वाग्रहों के बंधनों से मुक्त करे। यदि किसी शिक्षा को प्राप्त करके मनुष्य प्रकृति, समाज और अपने सहजीवियों के प्रति संवेदनशील नहीं बन पाता, तो वह शिक्षा व्यर्थ है। वास्तविक शिक्षा मनुष्य के अंतःकरण को आलोकित करती है और उसमें परोपकार तथा निःस्वार्थ सेवा की भावना जागृत करती है।
